The construction of a full-size replica of the Titanic in China is nearing completion as investors continue to plough millions into the project. New aerial images reveal that the replica of the sunken ocean liner is taking shape after the project began in 2016. The copy of the luxurious passenger ship, which sank in 1912 killing 1,500 people, will be a part of a grand theme park in Sichuan, south-west China, and is being painstakingly reproduced.
Lynch described seeing the huge British passenger liner up close with robotic cameras that fit inside the Titanic as “amazing.” Thoughts of the ship’s lights blazing and band playing before its slow descent into the calm sea surfaced during the dives, he said. “It was greater than anything you see on film,” he said. “The colors are much more brilliant to me in person than on film. I kept thinking about the people who survived.
Cookson Adventures has offered a trip that includes a dive to the wreck of the Titanic plus a recreation of the wine-paired dinner served to those in first class on the ship’s fateful maiden voyage. Available for nine people and taking place in July 2019, Cookson said that the trip was a rare opportunity to take part in a manned dive to the wreck of the Titanic, which lies 3,800 metres below sea level on the bed of the Atlantic.
While the dramatic and tragic scenes played out on the Atlantic Ocean, thousands of miles away a one-legged radio enthusiast in Blackwood was sat at his desk listening in. Artie Moore was one of the first people in the world to hear the terrifying message and although the story of the Titanic is known the world over, his role has been mostly lost to history. After the messages stopped Artie ran to the local police station to relay the news. With the Titanic being widely regarded as unsinkable and one of the most advanced ships ever built, the police laughed in his face.
Maury Yeston and Peter Stone’s musical, told from the perspective of several characters aboard the fated vessel, won five Tony Awards when it premiered on Broadway in 1997, including Best Musical. “After such a wonderful UK and Ireland tour last year, I am delighted that the great ship is sailing again both in the UK and across Europe,” Yeston said. Titanic will make stops in Woking, Munich, Mannheim, Cologne and Moscow. Tickets are available at TitanicTheMusical.co.uk.
“I’d look out my bedroom window and I could envision the Titanic out there,” said Scully. So to honor the ships legacy, Aidan has cut replica crystal goblets to the exact White Star Line design. And with any $40 or more purchase, customers are entered into a drawing to win two of these White Star Line goblets to take home. He has also just finished recreating a crystal bowl design served from on the Titanic as well.
A newly surfaced personal artifact of a Titanic survivor is on display at the Titanic Museum Attraction in Pigeon Forge before it goes to auction. Titanic survivor Helen Candee had two personal items on board the famed ship when it sank. She met another passenger and, believing he would survive before she would, she gave them to him. His body was recovered later, and her items were returned to her family.
“We are thrilled to host this, first of its kind, auction preview collaboration with Henry Aldridge & Son Auction House in England,” says Kellogg-Joslyn with the museum. “That means, for a brief and special period, our guests will be given an up-close look at a rare, Titanic artifact before it is ‘going, going, gone,’ possibly never to be seen again in a public setting.”
Transport through time back to a cold night in April 1912, become a passenger of that ill-fated voyage and experience an evening that you will never forget. The Queen Mary presents Aiden Sinclair’s A Night to Remember, a black tie evening in honor of the RMS Titanic on Saturday, April 13, 2019. Enjoy a seven-course gourmet meal, inspired by the final first class dinner served aboard, view artifacts from the ship and hear the bone-chilling tales of the passengers who both lived and died on that cold April night.
Originally, the food was taken from a combination of the different menus which was served to the first class, second class and third class passengers. Kathryn said: “The menu has changed over the years, so, this year, Shaun decided to do his own ten-course meal which he thought would go down well on the night.
People are seeking meaningful adventure experiences and they want to make a difference,” shared Stockton Rush, CEO, OceanGate. “It’s a travesty to just go, look and come back up. Our expedition allows Mission Specialists to explore as part of a team that is doing something incredibly rare and valuable, and also play an active role on the sub and ship throughout the mission.
Sorry folks for not posting for quite a while. I got distracted due to a very bad cold that lingered far too long! At any rate I have culled through my news feeds and found the following topical stories. I suppose the big news (sort of) is that Clive Palmer has resurrected Titanic II and seems intent to actually see it through. Doubts linger though on that one.

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year celebration. To get the year off, here is some Titanic news for your consideration.
The Titanic’s Forgotten Sister (Forbes, 1 Jan 2019) Olympic’s story illustrates an important lesson that technologies generally evolve gradually and not in sudden spurts. As Henry Petroski reminds us, engineers learn from failure and innovate to avoid making mistakes in the future. From the sinking of the Titanic, naval architects learned how to properly design watertight compartments, company managers realized the business value in having fancier staterooms and of course, everyone saw the necessity of having more lifeboats, safety drills and radio communications. Olympic, in large measure, was only able to have a long and successful career because her owners and captains had learned from the loss of her younger sister.

Book Your Place For The Last Chance To See The Titanic Shipwreck (Forbes, 31 Dec 2018) And now, more than a century after her sinking, the Titanic is about to welcome new guests courtesy of OceanGate’s Titanic Survey Expedition, conducting six missions to the wreck between June and August 2019 in its appropriately named Titan submersible. And while such expeditions are usually reserved for experts and researchers, OceanGate has opened up its invitation to regular citizen explorers like you and me.

‘Night to Remember’ featured Titanic survivor from Alabama (AdvanceLocal-Alabama,21 Dec 2018) As the ship slipped under, Gracie jumped into the frigid water, eventually managing to cling to an overturned collapsible lifeboat until he was rescued and taken aboard the Carpathia. He was traumatized and injured, however; his body covered with cuts and bruised. He never fully recovered from the ordeal and died in Dec. 4, 1912. Before he died, he completed a rough manuscript of a book of his experiences called “The Truth about the Titanic.” It was published in 1913.Gracie IV is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in New York. His headstone is etched with the words “Hero of the S.S. Titanic.”

Readers of this blog will note that there are many conspiracy theories out there about Titanic. Some are supernatural while others border on the ludicrous. I saw a headline, mind you a small one in one of the many news feeds I review, that said Jews sank Titanic. I was in a hurry and shook my head and noted to come back to look into it.
The story appeared on Ahram-Canada, an Arab language news website in Canada authored by Ahmed Zaki. It was noticed by the Elder of Ziyon blog which flagged it as antisemitic. The author writes:
The Jewish Freemasons built the giant Titanic ship and charged it with the fictional costs, only to kill three businessmen, who built it with a magnificent construction, to drag them on board, and then sink them into the ocean floor and bury the secret with them for ever. The [businessmen were against] the idea of creating the Federal Reserve! They loved to be rid of them in order to pave the way for the new world order.
You can guess this caused considerable outrage and likely violated Canadian law. The editor,Medhat Oweida, who was running for political office, apologized and removed the article (and others written by the author)from the website. It turns the article originated from a Lebanese newspaper and the author simply added some new items. The outrage appears to have cost the editor his political career for the moment. He claims he was too busy with politics to have seen the article before it was published.
The notion that Jews and Freemasons were involved in conspiracies of one kind or another have been around for centuries. And of course Hitler and the Nazi’s put that to use in their propaganda as well. Sadly it has taken on new life with many today who fall into the trap of believing such nonsense. Kudos to Elder of Ziyon for bringing it to light.

The Little-Known Titanic Secrets About This Hidden Merseyside Building (Echo, 29 Dec 2018)
The only sign of its illustrious past is the giant Harland & Wolff sign on the outside of the building. But unknown to many, this Bootle site – passed by hundreds of HGV drivers a week on their way to the Port of Liverpool complex – could have links to the ill-fated luxury ocean liner, RMS Titanic. The White Star Line-owned ship, built at Harland & Wolff’s main Belfast production yard and registered in Liverpool, tragically sank to the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean after striking an iceberg on April 15, 1912. Although there is little detailed information about Harland & Wolff’s Liverpool site, it is hought by some that engine parts for the Titanic could have been made there when it was used as a foundry at the turn of the last century. https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/little-known-titanic-secrets-hidden-15542852
The Titanic: 13 Things The Movie Got Wrong (12 They Got Right)(The Travel, 25 Dec 2018) Fortunately for Cameron and his team, the movie went on to be the highest grossing film of all time at the time of its release, breaking just about every single box office record in existence up until that point. It connected with audiences on a scale that few films do, becoming a cinematic sensation through its action-packed ship journey and an epic love story between the two main characters, Jack and Rose, played by a young Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Here are thirteen things the movie Titanic got wrong and twelve it actually got right. https://www.thetravel.com/things-the-titanic-movie-got-right-wrong-right/
Harland & Wolff: Shipbuilder An Enduring Chapter Of Belfast Story For More Than 150 Years (Belfast Telegraph, 21 Dec 2018) The Harland & Wolff shipyard was founded in Belfast in 1862 by Edward James Harland and Gustav Wilhelm Wolff. At its peak in the early 20th century – its workforce hit around 35,000 in the 1930s Harland & Wolff and its Belfast yard was one of the biggest shipbuilders in the world and a beacon of manufacturing prowess. Now the famous Drawing Offices where the plans for the liner were refined is the home of the Titanic Hotel within the Titanic Quarter. https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/business/northern-ireland/harland-wolff-shipbuilder-an-enduring-chapter-of-belfast-story-for-more-than-150-years-37646075.html

The Discovery Of The Titanic Wreck Was a Front For a Secret U.S. Military Mission (Govexe.com, 18 Dec 2018) While it is true that a team from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution found the Titanic, what was not reported at the time were the conditions put in place by the U.S. Navy—or their involvement with the mission at all. Ballard was not exclusively a Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution scientist, but also a U.S. Navy Commander. The navy would fund the mission, CNN reported, but only if Ballard first explored the USS Thresher and the USS Scorpion, two American nuclear subs that had sunk about 20 years prior. https://www.govexec.com/management/2018/12/discovery-titanic-wreck-was-front-secret-us-military-mission/153629/
You Can Visit The Wreck Of Titanic At The Bottom Of The Atlantic Ocean In 2019 (Lonely Planet, 18 Dec 2018) Plans are in motion to bring people to visit the wreck of RMS Titanic at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean in 2019 as part of six 11-day missions to explore the wreck. Taking part in the Titanic Survey Expedition, which is open to scientists and ‘citizen explorers,’ will cost US$105,129 (£83,537), which is the equivalent of what a first class ticket on Titanic’s maiden voyage would cost now. https://www.lonelyplanet.com/news/2018/12/18/visit-wreck-titanic/
The Replica Ship Titanic II Will Now Set Sail In 2022 (Business Insider, 12 Dec 18) There are many stories out there about the upcoming Titanic II (dubbed by me as Palmer 2.0). We went down this road before. We had lots of press releases, gala events, stories of various suppliers etc. And then it hit the wall. Palmer could not get funding, the shipyard was quiet. Once again they are cranking up the press releases and the media are eating it up. Remember when suddenly out of the blue news articles were pushing Titanic II a couple of years ago by simply regurgitating old news? Well it has that feel again. Any way, here is the article about what Palmer 2.0 will look like etc. https://www.businessinsider.com/titanic-ll-compare-to-the-original-2018-11
To close out this Saturday, here are two Christmas comedy music for your enjoyment. Happy Saturday.
Saint Lucy is the patron saint of the blind and eye disorders and her feast day used to coincide with the Winter Solstice which is the day often celebrated as a festival of light in many places. Many stories and legends have become associated with her but research has failed to substantiate many of them. It is known she lived in Sicily early in the fourth century and was persecuted and executed for her faith. One story that is likely true is that she was denounced as a Christian by a suitor after she turned him down because of her faith. She faced torture and death for her beliefs. Because it is believed she was blinded during Roman torture, she is the patron saint of the blind.
Her feast day is celebrated in Scandinavian countries as a festival of light during the long winter night. A young girl in a white dress and red sash carries palms and wears a wreath of candles on head. Special rolls or cookies are made for the day and often handed out to the elderly. It is also celebrated in parts of Italy particularly in Sicily and in many places of the world today. There are many churches dedicated to her and the island of Santa Lucia in the Caribbean is named for her.
Anyone who has studied Titanic will eventually come upon a variety of conspiracy theories to explain what happened that fateful night in 1912. Becky Little over at History.com has put together the top three of the craziest in an article reviewing these theories. The top ones are:
1. JP Morgan planned the disaster to kill off Jacob Astor, Isidor Straus and Benjamin Guggenheim.
2. Titanic was switched with Olympic and never sank.
3. A Mummy’s curse doomed the Titanic
I had not heard of the first one but it connects to the one concerning the Illuminati and Jesuits conspiring to bring about the Titanic disaster. The Titanic switch theory keeps getting dusted off every decade or so but easily disproved since the wreck found clearly is of Titanic and not Olympic. As for the mummy curse, well it is pretty much debunked now but it too occasionally gets new life on the Internet as well. I pretty much stick with the theory that Marvin the Martian was testing out his new ray weapon at the time.
