November is the eleventh month on both the old Julian and current Gregorian calendar. It is one of four months with only thirty days. On the old Roman calendar November was called Novem and was the ninth month. That name remains though the calendar has changed. November is usually the month (in the Northern Hemisphere) where autumn usually, if not already, shows definite signs of moving towards winter. Nights are getting longer, it generally gets cooler, and trees that shed leaves before winter are in that process. Birds and insects that migrate to warmer locations for winter often begin their journeys. Retailers often begin setting up Christmas products for display and Christmas tree lots often start their early preparations as well.
